Ferrovanadium is a ferroalloy containing 35-85% Vanadium, 1-3% Silicon, 1.5 -2% Aluminum. The rest is made up of iron and other admixtures. It is obtained by a silicothermic or silicoaluminothermic method, restoring technical vanadium pentoxide with silicon in an electric arc furnace.

Application: In steel industry, ferrovanadium is used in alloying steel and cast irons to obtain a fine-grained structure, increase the impact strength and stability of steel against alternating loads, and increase hardenability.The resulting steel is used in the aerospace and automotive industries, high-strength building materials and in medicine.The alloy is also used in the chemical process industry for high-capacity high-pressure fluid handling systems involved in industrial-scale production of sulfuric acid. It is also widely used for the production of hand tools.

Properties: Ferrovanadium is a universal additive for improving the properties of ferrous metal alloys.It gives several desirable properties to the resulting new compound. Ferrovanadium can enhance flexibility, strength,extensibility and anticorrosion. It has significant advantages over both iron and vanadium separately. One of the main advantages of adding ferrovanadium to the alloy is its corrosion resistance to alkalis, as well as sulfuric and hydrochloric acids. It can also serve to improve the ratio of tensile strength to the weight of the material.
